After marking the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea in Turkey, Pope Leo XIV is set to visit Lebanon from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2 with a “message of peace and hope,” as the country seeks a political and economic breakthrough amid post–cease-fire Israeli strikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs, the killing of Hezbollah commander Haytham Ali Tabataba’i, and heavy U.S. pressure on the Lebanese Army to move toward disarming Hezbollah.
